Sputnik is an Eastern European cocktail bar that transforms itself into a cafe when sunlight hits the floor. It’s usually rather calm during the day with not too many people – gets busier on weekends. Right now, the atmosphere is still more bar-like – with the high tables and high chairs, though there are low seating and comfy sofas. In the next few months, there will be more soft seating. Plus, you can sit outside in the sun and overlook the park, if you’d rather be outside. Power sockets inside are under the bar and around the walls (more coming soon). Outside, you’d probably have to rely on your battery at this point – or simply grab a notepad and a pen, and go old-school. The music is funky but not too loud (plus, you can always ask the bartenders to tune it down a bit or change the vibe – they’re very open). You get some of the best coffee in town, local herbal tea, fresh juices, and if you’re having that kind of day, you can even get a cocktail. Right next door is Raketa Rakia Bar – one of the better restaurants in town, so you can grab a bite; Sputnik also serves its own food. Around 5pm the place slowly starts to turn into a bar and more staff comes in. The mood gets more playful, so you can simply close your laptop and head into the evening. On some Wednesdays, you could hear a live band around 8pm, or stay longer to find out which DJ is playing tonight.
